Minutes of "GREEN TEAM" Meeting
29th November 2007

Present: All classes except 2F and 7G were represented at the meeting with Mrs Dalton and Mrs Kitson.

  1. Minutes from the last meeting in October were put in Teachers’ pigeon holes and some classes had had the opportunity to discuss Green Team concerns in Circle Time. Please keep asking your teachers for this opportunity to keep ‘green issues’ high on the school’s agenda.

  2. Class monitors talked about the actions they were taking to encourage others to recycle and save energy. Several have been switching off lights and projectors and turning off dripping taps, although in some classes paper is still being put in the wrong bin.  Paper towel wastage is still a problem and various ideas were discussed – Mrs Dalton to investigate the cost and availability of buying paper towel on a roll rather than using individual paper towels.

Mrs Kitson suggested that it would be a good idea for the Green Team to have some time in an Assembly early in the Spring Term to talk about water and paper towel wastage.  This will be planned at the next meeting after Christmas.

  3. The ‘saving energy’ competition was a success with 3B and 6S being the winners for the week.  Since then, everyone is making a big effort to switch off lights and projectors so a big ‘thank you’ to all monitors.

  4. Compost rota – new rota handed out to each class.  Rota seems to be working well so thanks given to all monitors for ensuring fruit/veg waste is composted. Mrs Dalton and Mrs Kitson talked about how compost is made and clear plastic bags containing compost in various stages of production were handed round – everyone could see how important worms are in the process!

The compost is used by Gardening Club to enrich the soil for better flower and vegetable production.

  5. Date of next meeting: will be early next term.
