All classes were represented except 1S and Mr Bassett welcomed the new monitors, explaining the importance of the Green Team in the school in reducing waste and saving energy.
- Mrs Dalton & Mrs Kitson gave an introduction to the work of the Green Team and several of the monitors volunteered information on what they expected their ‘job’ to entail:
- Encourage others to recycle by using clear plastic sack in green bin in classroom. Paper, plastic bottles, cardboard can all be placed in the green bin. However, paper towels, pencil sharpenings, blu-tack and staples should be placed in the ordinary bin/black sacks. Paper used on one side only can be put in class scrap paper drawer.
Remind their class during Circle Time about the importance of reducing waste. ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’ is a good motto!
- Turn off lights when leaving classroom empty eg for assemblies and at breaktimes.
- Close windows and doors to keep heat in during winter months. Try to make sure that heater grills are not blocked by files and boxes in the classrooms.
- Turn off dripping taps and tell Mr Long, the Caretaker, if any taps seem difficult to turn off as they may need to be repaired.
- The Green Team monitors are also responsible for collecting breaktime fruit peelings etc for the Gardening Club compost bin, located behind the wall and near to the yellow general waste bin. The basket for collecting the peelings should be taken out each breaktime and emptied each day into the bin. Mrs Dalton gave each class a copy of the ‘Compost Rota.’ Upper School’s turn the week starting 24th September.
- The monitors all received a ‘Green Team’ badge and were asked to do their best not to lose them! A replacement badge will cost £1.00.
- Date of next meeting – will be put on notice board and announced in Assembly/Circle Time. Remember to bring Green Team zippy wallets to each meeting.
