NOTES REGARDING YEAR 6 CHILDREN
1. Basic details:
Consists of:
2 maths papers and mental arithmetic test
2 science papers
4 English papers (2 Writing ,1 Reading 1 Spelling )
- Timetable will be distributed to parents and children in good time.

Tests will take place in classrooms with good adult support.

Absence is final - no retakes.

Papers are marked externally.

Results given in July (with a report).
- Teacher Assessment is equally important.

Levels - Most 11 year olds are expected to achieve Level 4.
2. What the school does to prepare children for SAT’s and secondary education:

Groups for English - following National Literacy Strategy.

Groups for Maths – following National Numeracy Strategy.

Identified weekly time for Science - clear programme of study - lessons taught in Science room or classroom.

3. How parents can support children throughout Year 6:

Give encouragement, discuss work covered and work which is to come. Keep them cheerful and positive.
- Offer practical activities where appropriate (money work/time/measuring/cooking/visits to support curriculum).

Optional use of commercially published SATs practice materials.

Encourage good attendance and punctuality.

Encourage smart appearance.

Encourage hard work, effort, positive attitude, manners and behaviour (in and out of school).

Ensure a reasonable bedtime and monitor T.V. viewing time.

Ensure a balanced diet.
-
Support completion of homework as appropriate.

Reinforce our behaviour expectations.
