On Saturday 26th June, 26 intrepid swimmers took part in the Marchwood Junior School 7th Annual Swimathon to raise money for the school's Rwanda Appeal.

There were some fantastic, really amazing personal bests and achievements, like the boys who came along to try to swim 10 lengths and ended up spurring one another on to complete 102 lengths...and the virtual non-swimmer who bravely said he'd try to do 1 length and with the constant encouragement of his dad and other children, swam 20 lengths of the pool !

Inspiration during the afternoon was provided continually by parent Nigel Colmer who came along to swim 300 lengths.....which he did with enviable ease in 2 hours and 9 minutes!

But then, he is our very own Iron Man Triathlete....Nigel completed a real Iron Man Triathlon challenge in Bolton last August swimming more than 2 miles, cycling 112 miles and finishing off with a 26 mile marathon.....so what do you expect!

Nigel was ably assisted by his sons, Ben and Dan who each swam 202 lengths. The Colmer family alone swam 11 miles that afternoon !

But all who took part were magnificent and a great afternoon was had by all; proud children and parents went home with big smiles on their faces...and deservedly so after swimming in total an amazing 2,758 lengths or 43.09 miles !
